Elevating the Everyday Elegance

Although it may seem obvious to say that the Chinese originated the popularity of the classic Chinoiserie design, in actual fact, it was the French! Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, the French were fascinated by all things Asian.
So they applied their intricate painting techniques and used cobalt blue to create Chinoiserie designs of their own. This design, accentuated with French style, is apparent in French porcelain, wallpaper and fabric creations. Many interior designers have picked up this aesthetic over the years.
Although intricate in design, the classic Chinoiserie is seen as a blank canvas by interior designers. It works best when particularly coordinated with other patterns and geometrics.
Take, for example, the use of the FIGS & FETA Mini Ginger Jars to dress up a tablescape. Individually hand-painted by talented artisans, these jars come in a box set of six and are small enough to be the perfect place setting ornaments
Fresh flowers. The Chinoise design tells so many stories as does the Hydrangea flower. What better place for them to tell their stories than in the centre of the table, creating your runner?
Printed fabric. Knotted cloth napkins colourfully outline each place setting. By knotting the napkins, you create a casualness to the setting.
Rattan charger plates. Natural textures, like rattan, provide the perfect backdrop to your Chinoiserie elements. Layer the charger with the FIGS & FETA Beaded
Dried eucalyptus foliage. Chinoiserie prints in tow, nestle your blue and white Birds and Ginger Jars among Eucalyptus foliage and dried flowers. Ta-dah! Your centrepiece!
Printed ribbon. Set a balance to your tablescape with Marine Grosgrain Ribbon or Siena Grosgrain Ribbon tied to each Mini Ginger Jar. Then place them on casual gingham napkins to create a country style setting.
Paper flowers. The character, texture, and colours of paper flowers provide the typical French country flavour to your table. Place them on the Laurent Bowl to make your centrepiece. To decorate a large table, place a bowl on either side of two place settings and repeat for the length of the table.
